NOTICE OF APPOINTMENT

Wendake, February 9, 2012 - The Regroupement des centres d'amitiés autochtones du Québec (RCAAQ) wishes to announce its new employee positions and the persons appointed to them. These new positions will strengthen the organization of the work being done by the RCAAQ to meet the needs of urban Aboriginal people in Quebec.

We are very proud and pleased to welcome our new employees. We congratulate them on their appointment as they begin putting their expertise and skills to work on behalf of the Quebec Native Friendship Centre Movement.

Amélie Lainé – Friendship Centre Services Coordinator
Amélie Lainé joined the RCAAQ in 2001 and since that time has carried out various duties, including programs coordination since 2004. Amélie has been named the new Friendship Centre Services Coordinator. In this role, she plans, organizes and oversees the services and programs at the Native Friendship Centres, in collaboration with our team of specialized advisors. Amélie obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English Studies and a Certificate in Aboriginal Studies from Université Laval. Motivated by the mission to ensure the well-being of Aboriginal citizens, she joined the RCAAQ team upon completing her studies.

Cécile Pachocinski – Education, Employment and Youth Advisor
Cécile Pachocinski holds a Master’s Degree and doctoral training in Anthropology from Université Laval. She joined our work team in April 2011 and last December was named Education, Employment and Youth Advisor. With solid professional experience in the areas of intercultural relations, Aboriginal identity and defence of Aboriginal rights, Cécile is supporting the mission of the Friendship Centre Movement through her collaboration in the development of projects in skill acquisition, Aboriginal youth leadership training and promotion, and the combat against poverty by means of socio-occupational insertion projects.

Claude Rodrigue – Social Economy and Development Advisor
Claude Rodrigue has been involved in the social economy for more than 25 years. He previously led two social economy enterprises in the Quebec City region with the mission to promote the occupational insertion of people excluded or isolated from the labour market and to assist people and families in economic difficulty, through profit-making activities. Claude has also worked as a community economic development officer in neighbourhood revitalization and as a social economy advisor, particularly in the area of business start-ups. Claude brings a wealth of expertise in development and the social economy to the Quebec Native Friendship Centre Movement.

Sébastien Tessier – Research and Policy Analyst 
Sébastien Tessier recently joined the RCAAQ team in the position of Research and Policy Analyst. He comes to the RCAAQ with a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Ottawa. Sébastien worked in the office of the leader of the Bloc Québécois as a policy analyst and political advisor. Committed to the values of the RCAAQ, he is applying his knowledge of government to assist the RCAAQ and the Native Friendship Centres in accomplishing their mandates.

Marie-Pierre Lainé – Accounting Technician
Marie-Pierre Lainé holds a Certificate in Business Administration (UQAM) and is currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Since joining the RCAAQ in 2007, Marie-Pierre has performed duties as youth development officer and has been named our Accounting Technician. Through her involvement in the Native Friendship Centre Movement, she has gained knowledge about issues involving the social and solidary economy. Marie-Pierre has demonstrated strong initiative and leadership by way of the various projects to which she has contributed.

Welcome on the Regroupement des centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec’s website! You will find here a wealth of useful and relevant information on the rights and interests of urban Aboriginal citizens and on the Native Friendship Centre Movement of Quebec, which is now over 40 years old!

We are very proud to introduce this dynamic communication and information tool which, we believe, will contribute to better defining the Regroupement des centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec as privileged interlocutor with regards to urban issues affecting Aboriginals in urban settings. Through this website, the Native Friendship Centre Movement wishes to inform you on the work, the struggles and the services provided in a true concern of understanding and sharing the world surrounding us.

When surfing through this website, you will note the scope of the Regroupement des centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec’s and Friendship Centres’ mission and numerous actions. They are working relentlessly to bridge the gap between peoples, to improve the quality of life of urban Aboriginals, to promote the culture, and to develop a better understanding of the urban reality, issues and challenges faced by Aboriginals.
