Photo credit : Julie Girard The Centre d’amitié autochtone de Lanaudière provides services to any Aboriginal person living off reserve in the Lanaudière Region. In practice, the clientele is mostly comprised of Atikamekw people from Manawan. The CAAL aims to improve all aspects of life for Aboriginals living off reserve. It focuses on services to youth and children who are often ill-prepared for life in urban settings. Overall, Aboriginals in this region are under-represented on the labour market, socially isolated and often economically dependent. They also experience major problems in lodging themselves appropriately. PROGRAM AND SERVICE OVERVIEW
OUTLOOK FOR THE FUTUREThe Centre d’amitié autochtone de Lanaudière wishes to facilitate access to the labour market for adults and assisting youth in achieving success at school. The CAAL also wishes to improve access to adequate housing for all of its clientele and develop services for preschool children in order to preserve the Aboriginal culture and values.
