Educate and inform
The Regroupement des Centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec (RCAAQ) plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the lived experience of urban Indigenous populations. As a provincial organization, the RCAAQ works to educate and inform the public and institutional players about the social, cultural and economic issues Indigenous people living in or passing through urban areas deal with. The RCAAQ advocates for the recognition of and respect for Indigenous rights, fosters intercultural dialogue and fights prejudice and discrimination.
Native Friendship Centres and awareness
Raising awareness is key to building a more inclusive and equitable society. The Quebec Native Friendship Centres raise awareness in a variety of fields, including justice, education, health and early childhood.
Elders
Valuing Elders and fostering well-treatment are central to our work at the Native Friendship Centres. Recognizing Elders’ vital role as guardians of knowledge, culture and tradition, Friendship Centres implement various initiatives to honour and include them. Various programs focus on intergenerational exchange, enabling Elders to share their knowledge and experiences with younger people and giving rise to cultural exchange. By providing a respectful, kind and caring environment, Friendship Centres encourage the active participation of Indigenous Elders and strengthen their sense of belonging. Friendship Centres support supportive, respectful communities where Elders are cherished and their wellness prioritized.
